Darryl Barrett

Darryl Barrett is currently the Coordinator of the Health Law and Ethics Team, at the Regional Office of the World Health Organization for the Western Pacific. He manages a team that supports governments in the Western Pacific Region to strengthen their legal frameworks for health. As a lawyer, and an occupational therapist with over 20 years’ experience in the public and private sectors, he draws on legal and health experience to address barriers that prevent people accessing the health care they need. Darryl has a wide range of experience in conflict, post-conflict, low and high-resourced country contexts in Australia, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific.

Marilyn Pattison is the Managing Director of MPOT/Access Fitness, a leading provider of health services in South Australia; the founder and Director of Rehabilitation at Access Fitness, a Day Rehabilitation Centre and fully accessible gym; and, the President of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT).

Marilyn, in addition to her occupational therapy qualification, also has a Masters in Business Administration (MBA), which has enabled her to deliver high quality health services within a commercial environment. Internationally, Marilyn is recognised as an expert in Workplace Health, Rehabilitation, Leadership and Entrepreneurship, and since 1998, has been regularly invited as a guest speaker internationally, as well as having contributed to a range of publications – both scientific journals and textbooks.

Marilyn Pattison

Marilyn has been recognised by the occupational therapy profession in Australia and internationally. She has been awarded the OT Australia National Award for her contribution to her professional association, as well as the Sylvia Docker Lectureship for her contribution to the profession. Internationally, Marilyn has been inducted as an Honorary Member of the Swedish Occupational Therapy Association and an Honorary Fellow of the WFOT, the highest international honour an occupational therapist can receive.

Dr. Athena Yijung Tsai

Assistant Professor

Dr. Athena Yijung Tsai is the recipient of the Prof. Tsuyoshi Sato Lecture award. The Sato Lectureship was established in honor of Professor Tsuyoshi Sato, one of the key founders of the APOTRG and APOTC. It aims to inspire occupational therapists through the sharing of knowledge and experience in occupational therapy research, education and practice. Sato Lecturers are recognized for their outstanding contribution to the body of knowledge of occupational therapy nationally and in the Asia-Pacific region. Their contributions through publication, presentations, organizational impact, policy development or governmental involvement, have benefitted society and the members of the profession.

Dr. Athena Yijung Tsai

Assistant Professor

Dr. Athena Yijung Tsai is an assistant professor at the Department of Occupational Therapy, School of Health Science, Kaohsiung Medical University, Taiwan. After graduating from National Taiwan University, she obtained her masters degree from New York University. During those years in the United States, she worked in several long-term care facilities. In 2009, she completed PhD degree in health policy and management from National Yang Ming University, Taiwan.

Dr. Athena Yijung Tsai

Assistant Professor

In the past 20 years, Dr. Tsai devoted herself to the profession’s public affairs. She was the president of Taiwan Occupational Therapy Association (TOTA) in 2011-2013 and has been in the board of directors since 1999. Through advocacy and negotiation with the Ministry of Health and Welfare, she and the TOTA have facilitated the growth and expansion of profession, particularly with regard the reimbursement policy of the National Health Insurance; policy and regulations related to OT practice in community; hospital or long-term care; and reform of clinical teaching and accreditation of teaching hospitals. This led her on the road to further involvement and positions in international organizations.

Dr. Athena Yijung Tsai

Assistant Professor

Dr. Tsai served as the Secretary General of the Asia-Pacific Occupational Therapy Regional Group and the Program coordinator (PCo) of Standards and Quality of the WFOT.

In recent years, with government grants, Dr. Tsai has been working on cognitive stimulation training, community health promotion, re-ablement and reimbursement in long-term care and disaster rehabilitation.
